Magpie Magic
11900 Edgewater Dr. #1301
Lakewood, OH 44107-3909

RNT II and Rings 'N Things are trade names that we use for the manufacturing and sale of magic apparatus. The trade names and this website are owned by Magpie Magic LLC, an Ohio Limited Liability Company.

RNT II and Rings 'N Things are names associated with the manufacturing of quality magic apparatus since 1976. Originally founded in St. Louis, Missouri and sold several times over the course of decades, the brand and the product have had intermittent availability. Now, with the brand, tooling and manufacturing rights acquired by Magpie Magic, all the legendary products invented by Rings 'N Things and RNT II are available again.

Magpie Magic's goal is to maintain the same level of craftsmanship and quality that has been established in the past and to make available an inventory of all the quality magic apparatus that the brand is famous for by using the original tooling and original product designs.

Who's behind the company

Bio: Don Buckley, aka Don Decae, President Magpie Magic, LLC.

Magpie Magic President and founder, Donald Buckley (also known in certain, more selective circles as Donald Decae) was born in Northern Ohio sometime shortly before dinosaurs ceased to roam the Earth. His interest in magic developed early on, coalescing in the purchase of his first apparatus at the tender age of 8. It was a zombie ball.

Over the years, his passion for the art grew, and he spent a larger than average portion of his adolescence regaling friends and family with feats of wonder and amazement, generally involving making everyday objects do exactly what they shouldn’t. It wasn’t until his early twenties, however that he took up the art in earnest, spending several years perfecting his skills and subsequently being paid by people other than friends and family to perform feats of wonder and amazement, again generally involving making everyday objects do exactly what they shouldn’t.

Further study led Don to amass an extensive library of magic that would make any right-thinking magician green with envy, (if such a creature as a right-thinking magician, in fact, existed.) His bookshelves read like a who’s-who of the art of magic, housing works by or about everyone from Ted Anneman to Tommy Wonder, (who he cites among his personal influences, along with the Great Slydini, Tony Andruzzi and Max Maven, to name a few). His knowledge of magic in theory and practice is encyclopedic, and entirely reflective of his deep-seeded passion for the art in all its manifestations. At the age of 30 he made his own contribution to the written works by partnering with Ohio's legendary magician David Simon and Michigan's Claude Michael, Certified Hypnotherapist. The three of them wrote and self-published the Snake-Oil Almanack, a bizzare magick quarterly that is still unique to this day, and very rare.

While his interests in magic have expanded into the realms of mentailsm, bizarre magic, etc., his passion for simple manipulation never abated. (The act of actually moving a coin from one hand into another has become something of an unnatural one for him, requiring thought and simultaneous resistance of the urge to make it disappear.) By Don’s way of thinking, the skill, knowledge and sense of elegance required to perform magic well and beautifully is no more evident than in the performance of the Cups and Balls; it is the culmination of all that is the art, and when executed with precision, both mechanically and psychologically, is truly magical. His purchase of Rings N’ Things II is not merely about taking on the responsibility of becoming the world’s largest manufacturer of Cups and Balls, it is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of being able to share a passion for magic with the world. Everyone who knows him can say with all certainty that he is the right man for this job.

When not sharing magic with the world, Don is a technology guru of a distribution and web-fulfillment company in Cleveland, Ohio. His non-magic interests include music, art, good wine, Betty Page, numismatics and American Idol. We try not to hold that last part against him.
